Bulgaria-Serbia interconnector construction to start on February 1

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic will take part on February 1 in the launch ceremony for the construction of the Gas Interconnection Bulgaria – Serbia (IBS), Report informs referring to the press service of the Bulgarian leader.

The grand opening of the construction work, which will take place on Bulgarian territory, will also be attended by Energy Ministers Rosen Hristov and Dubravka Dedovic, as well as Bulgartransgaz director Vladimir Malinov.

Prior to the ceremony, Radev will hold a bilateral meeting with Vucic.

The interconnector will have a total length of about 170 kilometers from the Bulgarian city of Novi Iskar in the capital region to Serbian Nis. After completion of the construction, the throughput capacity of the gas pipeline will be up to 1.8 billion cubic meters per year with the possibility of reverse flow.

This project is included in the priority list for the European Union and is financed by a specialized fund (Connecting Europe Facility, CEF).
