Azerbaijan is expected to supply 2 billion cubic meters of gas to Bulgaria in 2024, Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Bulgaria Huseyn Huseynov said in an interview with Euronews Bulgaria, Report informs.
The diplomat noted that energy is one of the priority areas in bilateral relations between Baku and Sofia.
"In 2013, Bulgarian company Bulgargaz and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) signed an agreement to supply 1 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas to Bulgaria. Deliveries began on December 31, 2020. While previously the discussion was about supplying 1 billion cubic meters, by the end of this year it is planned to supply 2 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas to the Bulgarian market," he said.
Huseynov noted that Azerbaijan and Bulgaria have significant potential for cooperation in green energy supplies.
"The issue of green transition is becoming increasingly relevant in the agenda of the EU and its partners. In this context, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria have significant potential for cooperation in renewable energy supplies. This is an important element in ensuring Bulgaria's energy security. Additionally, we have great opportunities for further development of natural gas supplies to Bulgaria," he added.
The ambassador believes that in the future, the parties can initiate new projects for supplying renewable energy from the Caspian region to Europe.
In 2023, Bulgaria received 1.25 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan.
