Azerenerji building new closed type substation in Khankandi

Azerenerji OJSC is building a new closed-type substation in Azerbaijan's liberated city of Khankandi.

Report informs, citing the company, that in September 2023, during the anti-terrorist operation, a special team from Azerenerji began work promptly in accordance with the head of state's instructions. They managed to provide power to Khankandi and surrounding areas from the Shusha substation within just four days.

However, when under separatist control, the 110-kV lines and the existing Khankandi substation had long exceeded their operational lifespan, resulting in frequent emergency shutdowns and prolonged interruptions.

Therefore, starting in the spring of this year, Azerenerji began constructing the 110 kV double-circuit Khankandi-1 and Khankandi-2 high-voltage transmission lines from Shusha city to Khankandi, traversing the most challenging mountainous and forested terrain. The installation of the overhead line, with a total length of 11 km, has already been completed, and work on laying 1.8 km of underground cable is underway. Most importantly, construction has begun on a closed-type 110, 35, and 10 kV substation in the city of Khankandi, conforming to the modern urban network model. A significant portion of the construction work has already been completed, according to Azerenerji.
