Azerbaijan to produce Euro-5 gasoline next summer

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) plans to start production of Euro-5 gasoline at the Heydar Aliyev Baku Oil Refinery in June-July 2023, Emil Alkhasli, Deputy Director-General of SOCAR Downstream Management LLC, said on the second day of the conference held as part of the Baku Energy Forum.

"In the third quarter of this year, it is planned to start producing Euro-5 diesel fuel. First of all, a hydrogen plant, and in the next stage, other plants will be put into operation, and this process will continue until the middle of next year. A hydrogen device is needed to clean diesel fuel and gasoline," he added.

The Deputy Director-General said that as a result, the plant will produce 2 million tons of gasoline a year: "60% of this volume will be RON92 gasoline and 40% - RON95 gasoline. One of the main goals of the reconstruction and modernization work is to fully meet the country's demand for gasoline and diesel by 2040. The remaining fuel will be exported."

"The first phase of the reconstruction and modernization project will be completed in 2023, and the second phase is scheduled for the end of 2027. As a result of the project, the refinery will be able to process oil from all Caspian countries," Alkhasli said.
