Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan boosts energy ties with Iran

The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan is set to connect its power grid with Iran through the 132 kV Julfa-Julfa overhead power transmission line which will be connected to the Julfa substation, according the Cabinet of Ministers of Nakhchivan, Report informs.

The existing 132/110/10 kV Julfa substation, which was built in the late 1990s and has been in operation for a long time, is undergoing reconstruction and relocation to remove its high-voltage power lines from residential areas. Two new 110/35/10 kV transformers with a capacity of 16 MVA each have been purchased for the substation.

One of the transformers has already been delivered to Nakhchivan and is being installed at the substation. The other transformer is expected to arrive soon. The substation will also be connected to one circuit of the double-circuit 110 kV overhead power transmission line, which will run from the 36 MW Ordubad Hydroelectric Power Station to the 87 MW Nakhchivan Modular Power Station.

The new substation will not only meet the demand for quality electricity supply in Julfa city and the villages of Yayji and Diza in the region but also play a crucial role in reducing technical losses of electricity. The existing 10 kV power line supplying these areas will be upgraded to a 35 kV voltage level and powered from the new substation.
