Azerbaijan's energy giant seeks partner for energy storage project

In a significant move towards embracing green energy, Azerbaijan's leading energy company, Azerenerji JSC, has announced a tender for the creation of a 250 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Azerbaijan.

According to Report, which cites Azerenerji, the tender seeks to select a company that will undertake crucial tasks such as preparing the preliminary project and tender documentation, developing technical specifications for determining the optimal location, and carrying out sketch design and construction of the battery energy storage system within Azerbaijan's power grid.

Interested companies have, until10:00 AM on August 30, 2024, to submit their proposals, with the tender procedure set to take place later the same day.

The Ministry of Energy estimates that to successfully integrate 2 GW of "green" energy, Azerbaijan requires a storage capacity of 250 MW. The project is slated for completion by 2027, with an initial 50 MW energy storage system planned to be operational by the end of the current year.

In a related development, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy and Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power signed an executive agreement in early May 2024 for the creation of a 200 MW battery energy storage system, further highlighting the country's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
