Azerbaijan and UNEP discuss cooperation issues within COP29

Azerbaijan discussed cooperation with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in several areas, including within the framework of COP29.

According to Report, citing the Ministry of Energy, the discussions took place during a meeting between Minister Parviz Shahbazov and UN Deputy Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen.

Azerbaijan's activities as an oil and gas country in the field of "green energy" and climate, as well as its participation in the "global methane pledge" were highly appreciated. It was noted that the chairmanship of COP29 has made Azerbaijan a center for combating climate change.

During the discussion, the sides reviewed initiatives and priorities included in the agenda of the COP29 chairmanship, as well as plans for joint energy projects with international partners.

The parties exchanged views on cooperation with UNEP in the field of methane emission reduction, development of agrophotovoltaic systems, and projects for transitioning to environmentally friendly transport in the country.

The meeting participants also discussed the role of World Environment Day, which will be organized in Baku in 2026, in strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and UNEP.
