In Azerbaijan, starting from 2027, alternative energy specialization may be taught as a 1-year technical vocational program, Kanan Baghirov, Director of the Vocational Education Center under the Economic Zones Development Agency of the Ministry of Economy, said at the event titled "Just Transition Dialogue: Ensuring a Just Transition to a Green Economy in Azerbaijan," Report informs,
According to him, in recent times, attention to the alternative energy sector has increased both at the educational level, and interest has also expanded in practical terms regarding industrial matters: "In this context, the issue of engaging specialists in education is of great importance. In this direction, we are cooperating with a German company on dual education. We are one of the 3 centers implementing a dual education program in Azerbaijan. Previously, this program covered information technologies, but when the next phase of the program was being prepared in 2025, we proposed the inclusion of 'smart agriculture' and alternative energy. They supported this, and work is currently underway in this direction. The German company has already submitted proposals to the Vocational Education Agency for the development of a dual education program in alternative energy. If approved, this will create new opportunities for adding alternative energy specialization as a 1-year technical vocational program in student admissions starting from 2027."
Baghirov said that advanced technical vocational training is long-term, while technical vocational training will enable the sector to be provided with qualified personnel in a short time: "Especially the existence of dual education, meaning the cooperation between educational and production enterprises, will allow practical competencies to be developed in a short period of time. Therefore, I hope that starting next year, we will be able to incorporate this educational program into the teaching process."
