Agency official: Azerbaijan's solar energy potential is 23 megawatts

Currently, Azerbaijan's solar energy potential is 23 megawatts, Rana Humbatova, Deputy Director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy, told an event themed "Innovative paths to a greener future: Renewable energy and emission reduction" held in Baku, Report informs.

According to Humbatova, most of the contracts that Azerbaijan currently signs with investors are related to solar energy: "The government has developed Azerbaijan's energy potential for a long time. Therefore, most of the contracts currently signed with our investors are based on the development of solar energy".

She said that the renewable energy potential is of great importance for Azerbaijan: "Renewable energy projects are ongoing and we hope to see the results by the end of 2025. We are currently using the Nida energy system to measure our offshore potential."

Humbatova emphasized that modeling the energy system is very important: "Last year, we conducted research only on the domestic market. This was a very important study. They also covered electrification, energy efficiency measures, as well as mobility scenarios, defense scenarios. But now I think the most important issue is to combine and integrate our research on green energy corridors with the domestic market. Because this is very important not only for us, but for all our partners. It will really show very different results. Because this will allow us to understand how we can increase our potential."
