AECOM: Certain measures to be taken to prevent exploration well in Shafag-Asiman block from affecting Shahdeniz

While drilling wells, gas condensate may spill and remain in water column, which will create paraffin glue on the water surface, Environmental Consultant at AECOM Anna Rouse told journalists.

According to her, condenser modelling is underway: "This is important because the situation reaches the coastal zone and has certain impact on birds, live nature. As for gas, it does not create any layer between the water surface and does not affect flora and fauna."

She also clarified possibility of impact of the exploration well in Shafag-Asiman block on Shahdeniz field: "I can say that the works are carried out 50 km far from the abovementioned well."

According to her, processes within the Shahdeniz 2 are underway and many of the wells have already been drilled: "As for assessment of the cumulative impacts, we are planning to take certain measures in the future. We mean underwater pipelines. The distance is 50 km and pipelines are installed at 1 km distance. As for ecological management plans, response action plans will be prepared regarding oil spills. Operators have already prepared standard response format in this direction and BP also intends to use these plans."
