New DAAD office opens in Baku

A new bureau of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has been launched in Baku.

The opening ceremony took place at the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL) and was attended by the German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig and Rector Kamal Abdulla.

The German ambassador said he was glad to open a second DAAD office in Baku. The first bureau of the DAAD operates at the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry. He informed the participants that a third DAAD office is planned to be opened.

Manig stressed the importance of learning German, which is widely used in many parts of Europe.

Maria-Ltsa Gezer, DAAD Methodist at AUL University, has been working here since September 2018.

She was one of those who supported establishing the German Language Teachers Public Union (ADMB) in Azerbaijan.

The German Academic Exchange Service is implementing several projects in Azerbaijan. For example, as part of the DAAD summer course, 13 German students visited Azerbaijan for two weeks in September 2021.

The university also offers Azerbaijani students a four-week summer trip to Germany.
