Library director: Azerbaijan, Qatar strengthening cultural and educational ties

Azerbaijan and Qatar’s relationship over the years has strengthened the cultural and educational ties between the two countries and continues to do so, Tan Huism, executive director at Qatar National Library, told Report.

“It was a pleasure to meet with Professor Karim Tahirov, director of the National Library of Azerbaijan, resulting in a fruitful discussion about our ongoing and future collaborative work to support our communities. We discussed potential opportunities in knowledge sharing, education and culture that could amplify our efforts in these areas, enriching and inspiring our communities and future generations,” she said.

“Our recent Memorandum of Cooperation reflects the importance of building cultural bonds across nations, with a special focus on exchanging and sharing books and knowledge. We will continue to provide opportunities like these to help Library members gain abundant knowledge about the culture and history of Azerbaijan and Qatar, thereby bringing the two nations closer together,” she added.

“Less than a year ago, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Doha donated 70 titles in English and Arabic to Qatar National Library. Spanning a variety of subjects, the books aimed to deepen public knowledge surrounding the rich history and culture of Azerbaijan. The Library and the Embassy of Azerbaijan to Qatar also recently hosted an event to honor the great poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi on the 880th anniversary of his birth. The event was a testament to the countries’ shared years of cultural, religious and historical values.”

“The Library is committed to empowering the community with a range of lifelong learning opportunities, while forging institutional partnerships like those with the National Library of Azerbaijan,” she added. “As part of its aim to promote imagination, discovery and nourishment to the human spirit, the Library will continue to invest efforts to grow its existing collection and adding to its diverse portfolio of books. In the coming months, we will be looking at additional avenues of collaboration in cultural heritage, literature and poetry to bring our people closer together.”
