Cooperation agreement to be signed between BSU and Cambridge University

Rector of Baku State University (BSU) Elchin Babayev met with the delegation led by the Director of the Cambridge Central Asia Forum Montu Saxena.

According to Report, the meeting focused on bilateral relations between the two universities in education and science.

The rector of BSU spoke about the work done in Azerbaijan in recent years in the field of science, education, and innovation and the achievements.

The importance of cooperation with Cambridge University for BSU, which is becoming one of the centers of education-science-research-innovation, was discussed. The guest, in turn, said he would help strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions. Professor Saxena expressed interest in bilateral cooperation in relevant fields within the framework of the activities of the institutions of the University of Cambridge, especially the Cavendish Laboratory. The forthcoming tasks and real prospects for establishing and strengthening bilateral cooperation were reviewed. In the end, it was agreed to develop a joint action plan and a partnership agreement between the universities in a short time.

Then Professor made a report on "Scientific assessment of development and innovation" in front of the faculty of BSU. Ali Nagiyev, Rector Advisor of BSU on Strategic Development and Relations, informed the guests and participants of the seminar about the results of a qualitative study of the higher education space in Azerbaijan in terms of the unity of education, science, and innovation. Drawing attention to the activities of the Center of Excellence in Research, Development and Innovation established at BSU, Ali Nagiyev said that BSU is already becoming a research university. He stressed the importance of developing University-industry-business cooperation under international collaboration and strategy requirements in this area.

Montu Saxena noted that its members are world-renowned scientists. Speaking about the activities of the Cavendish Laboratory of the Faculty of Physics at the University of Cambridge, he stressed that research is carried out in high energy physics, astrophysics, biological and medical physics, polymer and nanoparticle physics, optics and molecular physics, matter structure, semiconductor physics, and theoretical physics.

Saxena noted that the purpose of his visit to Azerbaijan is to strengthen research in Azerbaijani educational institutions, to conduct research at Cambridge University and student exchanges, as well as to discuss the prospects of cooperation with Azerbaijani educational institutions specializing in physics to create conditions for Azerbaijani researchers to conduct research in the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge.
