Weather forecast for New Year holidays announced

The weather forecast for December 31 - the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis and the New Year has been announced.

Umayra Tagiyeva, head of the National Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, spoke about the results of meteorological observations for the past 20 years.

"According to analysis, in the last 20 years, the residents of Baku and Absheron celebrated the New Year with sleet and snow only four times - 2007, 2009, 2012, 2016. In the New Year of 2009, the snow height was 14 centimetres, which was unusual for Baku. The lowest temperature was recorded in Baku and Absheron peninsula in 2009 at -1.6 C. The lowest rate in other country districts was -26.5 C in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in 2006. One more year will be added to the number of snowless New Year. The first days of the holiday - December 31 and January 1-2, 2022 - will be relatively stable and mostly rainless against the background of a gradual drop in atmospheric pressure," she said.
