UN chief expects Azerbaijan to drive progress in climate change battle at COP29, Dujarric says

There is no doubt that Azerbaijan's preparations for COP29 are going well, according to Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General.

Answering Report's question, Dujarric stated that UN Secretary-General António Guterres expects Azerbaijan, as the host of COP29, to deliver real and concrete progress in the international organization's fight against climate change.

Dujarric emphasized that Guterres remains deeply concerned about global warming and climate change, and wants to see progress in combating these trends on many fronts.

He said the Secretary-General's messages on climate change last Friday were very clear, simple, and quite dramatic. It's not just about the actions taken by member states, Dujarric said, adding that it's about the fossil fuel industry, the importance of recognizing their responsibility for creating this climate change situation.

Dujarric noted that the UN is calling for progress on several fronts, including addressing losses and damages, to prevent the devastating consequences of climate change.
