Umayra Tagiyeva: Snow expected in Baku

"Recently, weather forecasters have been confronted with rare, perhaps hitherto invisible, direction and movement of air masses that are not typical for a particular region. One such process is expected on December 23-24," the head of the National Hydrometeorological Service Umayra Tagiyeva, Report informs.

She noted that usually in winter, cold air masses enter the country from the northwest, north, or northeast, i.e., Scandinavia or New Earth, causing significant cooling and snowfall: "This time, the abnormally cold anticyclone, which caused the temperature in Eastern Siberia to drop to 17 degrees below normal, will reach our region on December 23-24, extending from east to west, in contrast to the usual flow of air masses from west to east."

According to her, sleet and snow are expected in the Absheron Peninsula and Baku on December 23-24: "However, even though the temperature drops by 8-10 degrees, the temperature will be close to +3 degrees, which will not allow the formation of continuous snow cover."
