Umayra Taghiyeva: Floods in Azerbaijan are indicator of repercussions resulting from climate change

Recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports focus on accelerating climate change, Umayra Taghiyeva, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, said at the event titled “Raising Ambition, Delivering Action: COP29 Sustainable Business Forum”, Report informs.

That is why anomalous cases occur, she said.

“Between 1999 and 2000, Azerbaijan experienced four significant flooding incidents. The frequency of such incidents increased dramatically to fifty in the period from 2020 to 2021. In 2023, an unprecedented record was set. Last year alone, we witnessed 147 instances of flooding. These figures are indicative of the repercussions resulting from climate change,” Taghiyeva said.
