Russian Foreign Ministry: Climate agenda politicized over past decades

The climate agenda has been politicized for the past decades, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said on the sidelines of the meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers, Report informs.

Zakharova noted that the climate issue has become a powerful tool for manipulation.

"We see that in recent years, and even decades, the climate agenda is simply being politicized, and this may not be the worst evil anymore. Climate is becoming a field for manipulation, often with outright lies. It's surprising how countries, sometimes diametrically opposed in their positions, act on the climate arena. They either call for signing documents, then refuse them, then return again and call everyone to follow them," she added.

Zakharova also wished her Azerbaijani colleagues that environmental issues would not become a tool in the hands of those who care only about political gain, rather than the issue itself.
