Restoring fertility of saline soils in Azerbaijan to be important step within COP29

Restoring the fertility of saline soils in Azerbaijan will be an important step within the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Report informs.

This was announced at the signing ceremony of a memorandum between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the AZCHEMCO company.

The memorandum provides for the beginning of the process of restoring the fertility of saline soils.

“Groundwater salinizes the soil, which negatively affects agriculture. As part of the project, thanks to a special solution, the soil is desalted and becomes suitable for crops. Subsequently, through the introduction of special fertilizers, soil fertility is restored. If the result is successful, these lands will be suitable for a long time for agriculture. The process in question is carried out in an absolutely harmless way. We believe that this project will also be an important step within the COP29,” said Ruslan Akchurin, director of AZCHEMCO LLC.
