Protecting the environment is not only the duty of individual countries but a shared responsibility of the entire international community, Azerbaijan's Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Rashad Ismayilov said, Report informs.
Speaking at the World Environment Day event in Baku, hosted in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Ismayilov emphasized the transboundary nature of environmental challenges.
"Environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of separate states, but of the whole international community. This issue is of a cross-border character," he said.
The minister noted that parts of Azerbaijan's territory suffered severe destruction during the years of occupation.
"Today, ecological approaches are being prioritized in the restoration and reconstruction of the liberated territories," he added.
