Norway's special representative notes great need for renewable energy sources on global scale

Norway is a major producer and exporter of oil, which makes it similar to Azerbaijan, Per Strand Sjaastad, Special Representative for Green Transition of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a panel discussion in Baku.

According to Report, he noted that such a structure of building an economy cannot be consistent with the goal of sustainable development and the goals of the Paris Agreement.

"There is a great need for renewable energy sources in the world. And we are trying to increase the volume of hydropower," said the special representative.

Sjaastad also emphasized that the transition to renewable energy sources is not enough. "We also need to develop ways to reduce emissions. Otherwise, the transition will not be carried out at the pace we need," he concluded.
