Azerbaijan experienced a total of 43 flood events in July 2024, marking the highest number of floods recorded in July over the past 50 years, said Nazim Mahmudov, the head of Azerbaijan's National Hydrometeorological Service, Report informs.
The official stated that this figure is 2.7 times higher than the number of floods recorded in July 2023.
“As a result of intense torrential rains in July 2024, several rivers in the Greater and Lesser Caucasus and the Lankaran-Astara region experienced short-term floods,” Mahmudov noted.
He further said that the water content in local rivers, particularly in the Greater and Lesser Caucasus and the Lankaran-Astara region, was generally higher than normal, although some rivers had lower water levels than usual.
