IPCC chief: Rising number of natural disasters - new reality

Numerous natural disasters and forest fires have become a reality in the present, Jim Skea, the chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), said in a video address on September 30 at the Baku Climate Action Week, Report informs.

According to her, the group's reports note that with further warming of 1.5°C, new consequences of climate change will appear, in particular, loss of biodiversity, water scarcity, more extreme weather conditions, and lack of food security.

The crucial climate negotiations at COP meetings are based on periodic assessment reports presented by the IPCC as a UN body for evaluating scientific data related to climate change and climate actions, he said.
