Baku. 5 March. REPORT.AZ/ Armenian vandalism in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan created a disastrous ecological situation, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev said at the opening of the international conference “On prevention of illegal economic and other activities in the occupied territories, responsibility of the third parties and influence on the resolution of the conflict" held in Baku.
He noted that international law should play a key role in such cases.
"Forests, flora and fauna of Azerbaijan are destroyed, and water is polluted. As a result of deliberate arsons committed by Armenians, approximately 100,000 hectares of the forests of Azerbaijan were destroyed. The ecological situation of the Araz River leaves much to be desired. As a result of water pollution by Armenians, many fish species die out,” the minister noted.
Babayev stressed that Armenia also continues to plunder natural resources in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
