Eugene Seah: Switching to electric motors would help reduce environmental harm from shipping

The reason for the shallowing of the Caspian Sea is complex, and the water level primarily depends on the flow of inflowing rivers, which provide the necessary amount of water to the basin, Eugene Seah, Head of Operations Department at Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC, told Report.

According to him, the Baku port is carrying out dredging works to a depth of 9 meters, as the current depth level of the water area is 6 meters.

"For now, we have a reserve, but our colleagues in the region have the same problems, and they also need to address this issue," he said, emphasizing that this problem affects cargo transportation, as the shallower the water area, the less the ship can be loaded.

He also noted that shipping significantly affects environmental pollution, so the company strives to minimize harmful emissions. According to Eugene Seah, switching to electric motors would help solve this problem, and the Baku port is already working with ASCO in this direction.
