Deputy Minister: 'Our goal is to plant 5 million trees by end of 2024'

5 million trees are planned to be planted in the country by the end of this year, Vugar Karimov, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, said at the tree planting action held on February 14 on the initiative of Global Media Group, with the participation of Global Management and other companies of the Group and with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Report informs.

The deputy minister emphasized that mass tree-planting actions have been started in Azerbaijan after the declaration of 2024 as the "Year of Green World Solidarity.".

"Starting from the beginning of February, such tree-planting actions have been started both on the Absheron Peninsula and in other areas of our country. Not only the Ministry and its local institutions, but also relevant state bodies and central executive authorities, participate in these actions. Today, we are holding the action together with Global Media Group employees and mass media representatives. You know that the Absheron Peninsula is an area with a desert and semi-desert landscape."

Karimov said that the planting of tree and shrub seedlings on the peninsula is labor-intensive and requires special care: "Planting works have been carried out in Mushfigabad since 2022. More than 200 hectares have already been planted with olive and pine trees that adapt well to the local climate. This action will be continued throughout the year. These areas are equipped with drip irrigation systems. More than 95% of the trees planted on the Absheron peninsula have grown. Our goal is to plant about 5 million trees in the country by the end of the year."
