Deputy Minister: Azerbaijan's water resources have decreased by 15% in last 30 years

Over the past 30 years, our water resources have decreased by 15%, and today, Azerbaijan is among the countries experiencing water stress, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, Vigar Karimov, said at the event on "Green transformation in Azerbaijan: Sustainable Development Goals," Report informs.

According to him, climate change is one of the most discussed problems in the world: "The temperature in the country has increased by 0.4 - 1.3 degrees in the last hundred years. The decrease in precipitation forces us to take more drastic measures regarding water in the coming years. Unfortunately, this problem did not bypass Azerbaijan. The territory of Azerbaijan is sensitive to issues such as global warming. Factors such as an increase in temperature, a decrease in our water resources, desertification, intensification of the erosion process, a decrease in the amount of precipitation, and an increase in the number of windy days are showing their results in Azerbaijan.

The deputy minister said that 11.8% of the country's territory is covered by forest: "One of the factors influencing the decline of forest areas is global climate change."
