This year, 13 automatic hydropower plants will be built on the rivers in Karabakh, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Rauf Hajiyev said at the German-Azerbaijani Forum on Sustainable Development-2021 “Sustainable Development of Water Infrastructure in Azerbaijan,” Report informs.

He noted that the problem with water resources exists all over the world, including in Azerbaijan.

The deputy minister added that the priority issue on this issue is to ensure the protection of Azerbaijan’s water resources.

He noted that the volume of water resources is decreasing due to climatic changes, and in this regard, the state continues to take the necessary measures for their careful use.

Hajiyev reminded that in 2020 Azerbaijan returned the occupied lands, which, as is known, are rich in water resources, and at the moment, the state of water in these territories is being monitored.

“Based on the monitoring carried out, several contaminants were found in the waters of the liberated territories,” the deputy minister said.

He added that to date, Azerbaijan and Germany have already implemented a number of agreements in the water sector.
