Investment in climate-related activities has increased fivefold, newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Dmytro Shlapachenko said at a panel discussion held as part of Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026), Report informs.
He noted that the United Nations had actively supported Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency, with around 12 initiatives implemented or launched with the participation of 25 UN agencies.
Among them, he highlighted the Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform, the Baku Climate Initiative "Harmony" for farmers, and the COP29 Declaration on Green Digital Action.
Shlapachenko stressed that the COP29 Declaration on Green Digital Action was one of the conference's concrete outcomes. The initiative was supported by 82 countries and nearly 1,800 companies and organizations.
"The Action Digital Hub at COP30 will provide countries, particularly those in the Global South, with practical tools to help advance these initiatives," he said.
He also said that the UN and the Azerbaijani government had signed a UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2026-2030.
"Thanks to COP29 and the impact the conference has had, numerous concrete climate action items have emerged. We expect to implement them over the next five years," Shlapachenko said.
