Azerbaijan has embarked on an ambitious journey to transform its landscape through extensive tree planting and greening initiatives. The country has set its sights on restoring a staggering 270,000 hectares of forest lands, a commitment that showcases its dedication to environmental sustainability.
Speaking at the 29th high-level meeting "Pathway to COP29: Sustainable and Resilient Future" in Zangilan, Faig Mutallimov, Head of the Environmental Policy Department at Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, highlighted the nation's green endeavors.
He noted that in 2023 alone, Azerbaijan planted around 4 million saplings, and the country aims to raise the bar even higher in 2024, with plans to plant an additional 5 million trees.
To support these large-scale projects, Mutallimov emphasized the importance of innovative irrigation methods, including wastewater treatment and seawater desalination.
