Azerbaijan's Shamakhi hosts informal consultations to discuss key issues on COP29 agenda

On July 26-27, informal consultations at the level of delegation heads were held in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan, to discuss the main issues on the agenda of the upcoming COP29 climate conference.

According to Report, which cites the official COP29 website, the consultations were attended by the Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), representatives and experts from the UNFCCC Secretariat, ministers responsible for climate issues from Bangladesh and Barbados, as well as over 40 countries chairing international negotiating groups and actively participating in climate discussions.

In his speech at the event, Yalchin Rafiyev, the lead negotiator for COP29 and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, emphasized the determination of the COP29 presidency to achieve progress on all pillars of the Paris Agreement. He stressed the importance of transparent and focused negotiations, urging parties to be constructive in areas where disagreements persist in the ongoing climate talks.
