Azerbaijan must maximize use of local water resources to mitigate impending crisis, expert warns

Azerbaijan faces a serious water shortage in the near future, and immediate action is necessary to secure the country's water resources from internal sources, according to Dr. Ahmad Mammadov, a Doctor of Technical Sciences.

According to Report, speaking at the 3rd International Scientific-Practical Conference "Modern Problems of Geography: Integration of Science and Education," dedicated to the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Dr. Mammadov emphasized the urgency of the situation

"Taking into account climate change, Azerbaijan is already experiencing a shortage of water today," Dr. Mammadov stated. "Therefore, it is necessary to carry out work to ensure Azerbaijan's water resources from internal sources. We must maximize the use of water resources from local rivers."

The expert noted that creating reservoirs on rivers would allow local residents to be provided with a sufficient amount of water.
