Azerbaijan hosting World Environment Day in partnership with UNEP

Azerbaijan is hosting the 2026 World Environment Day (WED) in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Report informs.

The event in Baku is held under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future" and brings together Azerbaijani officials alongside UNEP representatives.

Following the official opening ceremony, the program continues with panel sessions, including Joint Action to Reduce Methane Emissions: Solutions in Agriculture, Energy and Waste and The Caspian Sea at a Turning Point: Declining Sea Levels and Regional Science-Policy Dialogue.

Azerbaijan assumed the WED hosting role at the 2024 event in Korea. Established by the UN General Assembly in 1972, World Environment Day has become a global platform engaging millions of people in environmental action.

The country continues efforts to expand protected areas, safeguard biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and combat climate change. As a party to the Paris Agreement, Azerbaijan has committed to reducing emissions and expanding renewable energy.

Building on the momentum of hosting COP29, Azerbaijan aims to strengthen international cooperation and turn environmental commitments into practical action through this event.
