Armenia, its patrons use Sarsang reservoir as means of terror

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Agency for Water Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan issued a joint statement regarding the situation with the Sarsang reservoir.

Report informs that the statement reads:

"For more than thirty years, the Sarsang reservoir, created in 1976 on Tartarchay, and currently in the territory under the temporary control of Russian peacekeepers, has been purposefully used by Armenia and its patron forces as a means of environmental and socio-economic terror. The reservoir, which is in emergency state, poses a serious threat to the settlements, farms and infrastructure located in its lower part. Resolution No 2085 of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe of January 26, 2016, regards Armenia's actions as environmental aggression aimed at creating humanitarian and environmental problems for Azerbaijani citizens. The document specifically emphasizes that improper management of the Sarsang reservoir can lead to a major catastrophe, which will entail numerous human casualties and a new humanitarian crisis. At the same time, the Assembly called on the Armenian authorities to stop using water resources as a means of political influence or pressure."

The statement also notes that the misuse of the Sarsang reservoir with a total displacement of 560 million cubic meters continues to cause serious damage to the region's ecosystem.

The statement contains an appeal to Armenia, which violates the ecological balance in the region, damages its flora and fauna, through the forces controlled by it, to refrain from such actions.
