Verdict voiced for Rashid Baglaryan, accused of involvement in Khojaly genocide

Rashid Beglaryan, accused of involvement in the genocide against Azerbaijanis in Khojaly and terrorism, was today sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Report informs that the verdict was announced at a meeting of the Sabunchu District Court presided by Judge Ali Suleymanov of the Fizuli Military Court.

Beglaryan will spend five years in prison, and the rest in a high-security correctional facility.

The state prosecutor demanded that Beglaryan be sentenced to 17 years in prison.

The victim Akbar Huseynov said that Beglaryan participated in the atrocities in Khojaly, and in court, he lies saying that he does not know the victims. Huseynov asked the court to impose the most severe punishment for the accused.

In his last words, Beglaryan stated that, being mobilized, he carried out the orders given to him, and asked to commute the punishment.
