The urban population in Azerbaijan has increased by almost 5 percent over the past 53 years, head of the urban planning department of the State Main Design Institute Rafiq Mirzayev said at a panel discussion within the Cultural Heritage forum taking place for the first time in Azerbaijan, Report informs.
He doesn’t consider the increase in the urban population to be a manifestation of urbanization: “The point is the uneven distribution of the population across the territory of the republic. Some 42 percent of the country’s urban population lives in Baku, which is 23 percent of the total population.”
