State Security Service: ICMP may raise issue of missing persons with Armenia

Azerbaijan expects the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) to act as a mediator and raise the issue of providing information on the fate of missing Azerbaijani citizens with Armenia, Deputy Head of the State Security Service (SSS) Lieutenant General Sharafat Hasanov said.

Report quotes him as saying the organization has vast experience in the field of forensic examination, technical capabilities and a staff of qualified specialists, and long-term cooperation will open up new opportunities in the field of clarifying the fate of missing persons.

"It is especially important to conduct training for Azerbaijani specialists, apply new methods and technologies in the field of searching for burial sites, exhumation, and identification of remains. The greatest difficulty is the identification of mixed remains," Hasanov added.
