State commission: Remains of 642 missing persons in Azerbaijan exhumed so far

Azerbaijan's State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons has so far exhumed the remains of 642 missing citizens, Ali Naghiyev, the chairman of the state commission, said at an international conference "Addressing the problem of missing persons: upholding 'the right to know' for the families" in Baku.

According to Report, he noted that these remains were found in 18 mass graves in territories liberated from occupation.

Naghiyev added that forensic molecular genetic examination allowed to establish the identities of 155 people who were considered missing during the First Karabakh War.

"The identification of 131 remains was carried out by the Genetic Research Center, which operates under the Main Military Medical Directorate of the State Security Service. This center was established in 2022 by the relevant order of the president of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev," Naghiyev said.
