Samir Nuriyev, Head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the COP29 Organizing Committee, has met with Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Report informs.
Nuriyev provided a comprehensive update on the COP29 preparation process under the supervision of President Ilham Aliyev.
The chairman emphasized that Azerbaijan's initiatives for the conference have been recently unveiled to the public. He added that COP29 President-designate has addressed a detailed letter to all parties to the Framework Convention, reflecting the plans and expectations related to this prestigious event.
Nuriyev also highlighted that the COP29 presidency is actively engaging with all states and stakeholders, participating in crucial international gatherings, and working diligently to understand diverse perspectives.
He underscored Azerbaijan's commitment to facilitating consensus between developed and developing countries on the critical issue of new climate finance targets.
The discussion also covered the logistical aspects of COP29, including, upcoming events in Azerbaijan as part of the COP29 preparation process, arrangements for delegations and other participants, support for civil society participation, and communication strategies.
Simon Stiell expressed satisfaction with Azerbaijan's preparations for COP29 and appreciated the country's focus on supporting small island nations. He affirmed the UN's readiness to provide full assistance to Azerbaijan in organizing this pivotal climate conference.
