Rizvan Nabiyev discusses Western Azerbaijan Community's activities in Geneva

Rizvan Nabiyev, head of the delegation of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament) to the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), chaired the Coordination Meeting of the APA held within the framework of the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Report informs.

Expressing concern over the escalating situation in the Middle East, Nabiyev emphasized the importance of resolving existing problems in the region through peace and negotiations.

During his speech, Rizvan Nabiyev provided information about the political realities in the South Caucasus and the processes taking place in the post-conflict period after the end of the armed conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He brought to the attention of the delegations that the initiative to sign a peace treaty with Armenia belongs to the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

He also underlined that for the signing of a peace treaty and full normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, it is an absolute condition for Armenia to amend its Constitution and abandon territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Nabiyev also noted that despite the appeals of the Western Azerbaijan Community, representing 300,000 Azerbaijani refugees, the Armenian government avoids dialogue and fails to ensure their right of return, which is enshrined in various international human rights documents.

Nabiyev further stated that in November of this year, Azerbaijan will host COP29, for the first time in the South Caucasus and the region as a whole.

The preparation of an ambitious Action Program consisting of 14 initiatives on finance, human capital, peace and a number of other issues by the Republic of Azerbaijan was brought to attention.

It was noted that Azerbaijan, taking the initiative of a ceasefire, calls on all countries to respect peace during the month of COP29, as during the Olympic Games.
