The number of settlements on the territory of Western Azerbaijan (present-day Armenia), whose population was subjected to genocide in 1987-1991, has been clarified, and a list of Azerbaijanis expelled from their ancestral lands has been compiled, the Board Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community, MP Aziz Alakbarli told Report.
According to him, Western Azerbaijan Community has set specific tasks for itself, enshrined in the Concept of Return to Western Azerbaijan, and is implementing them step by step.
The head of the community noted that the first step is documenting the facts of genocide committed at the state level against Azerbaijanis in these territories during the last deportation - in 1987-1991.
“The process turned out to be more difficult than we expected, since about 36 years have passed, and some of our compatriots are no longer alive, some have changed their place of residence several times, moved to other countries, so it is very difficult to determine their place of residence. But no matter how difficult it was, we did it and are going to officially announce the names to the general public,” he said.
