The V Congress of World Azerbaijanis in Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, is an essential event in the socio-political life of Azerbaijan, as well as the beginning of a new stage in the history of our diaspora, MP Soltan Mammadov told Report.
According to him, the realities in the region after Azerbaijan's historical victory in the Great Patriotic War and complex processes in the world led to new challenges and targets.
Touching upon the fact that the Congress is being held in Shusha, the MP said it could be taken as a message addressed to both Azerbaijanis and the international Azerbaijanis: "I think that the choice of Shusha to hold the Congress shows how high the moral value of this city is for the 50 million people of Azerbaijan. At the same time, the Azerbaijani Diaspora's defining its activities in this city at a new historical stage makes a special sense. Along with being a cultural capital for us, and a symbol of victory, Shusha also symbolises our unity and solidarity of Azerbaijanis around the world."
Mammadov also noted that President's recommendations in his speech in the Congress will be ideological directions to define the activity of the diaspora: "Result of the Patriotic War changed the geopolitical realities in the region and set different tasks for the diaspora. To my mind, the ideological goals arising from Azerbaijanism remain unchanged. Delivery of truths about the unity of the world Azerbaijanis, history and modern life of Azerbaijan to the world community, and promotion of cultural heritage and other ideological postulates are still actual. However, now, the Azerbaijani diaspora is undertaking to convey to the world the goals of the policy pursued by the Azerbaijani state, its calls for peace, stability, tranquillity and cooperation in the South Caucasus. I am confident that the experience of the past years gives rise to say that our compatriots will succeed in this mission as well."
