Mazahir Panahov: Number of observers will reach 50,000 before election

The elections held in Azerbaijan are monitored by internal actors as well as foreign organizations, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Mazahir Panahov, said at the round table on ensuring citizens right to vote, Report informs.

"We try not to violate the requirements of the legislation in a complex process such as an election. This is the purpose of the educational events we have implemented with various institutions, and this format is the first," he noted.

"5 out of the 7 registered candidates are political party representatives. Currently, the number of observers has reached 20,000. I believe that this number will approach 50,000 before the election," Panahov added.

According to him, international organizations have already reported that Azerbaijan has come a long way in relation to the election process.

The chairman also emphasized the importance of the event held with the Office of the Ombudsman: "We have high expectations from the Office of the Ombudsman. If someone's rights are violated, the Ombudsman must intervene. There is no need to hide it. We expect support from the commissioner to eliminate the deficiencies."
