Heydar Aliyev's assistant: I remember him as a brave and determined person

Heydar Aliyev's courage and determination during his work in Moscow as First Deputy Chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers was noted by his then assistant Vladimir Ukhov.

Report's Russian bureau informs that Ukhov shared his memories of the five years that he worked with Heydar Aliyev.

“I happened to work with Heydar Alievich for almost five years. It was the 'Kremlin five-year plan,' as he himself called it. Then I had the opportunity to meet with him daily, to carry out his instructions. The courage and determination of Heydar Aliyev remain in my memory. It was manifested both in solving big and serious issues, as well as in small matters. This was the peculiarity of his personality, for him there were no trifles," Ukhov said.

Ukhov shared his memories of how the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, showed himself during the tragic events, when the ship "Admiral Nakhimov" was wrecked. According to him, despite his high position, he lived in an ordinary hotel, ate with everyone, and at the same time did his best to help the victims and the families of the dead and missing.

“He was all haggard, somehow darkened. It was evident that he empathized with people who were waiting for news from their loved ones,” he said. "I happened to be with him for almost three weeks, since I myself am a long-distance sailor. I had a chance to see how he tried all these days to help those who were rescued, or to provide food, housing for those who came to Novorossiysk in search of relatives, how he empathized with people, talked to them, supported them. I think this shipwreck went through his heart and left a scar for life. "
