Diaspora activist says 'proud' to be back to liberated lands

"For me, as a Karabakh resident and an Azerbaijani living in Hungary, it is a real pride to be back to the de-occupied land after 29 years of occupation," says Nurana Verdiyeva, a young activist of the Azerbaijani Diaspora in Hungary, who visited Shusha within a group of Shusha residents.

She told Report that her joy is just endless while adding that the tears of joy and sorrow have mixed together.

"I find it very hard to express my emotions that I felt when I came and saw Shusha of which I could read only in books, news websites and hear only on TV for 29 years. Frankly, if I have such feelings, I cannot even imagine the emotions of the Shusha residents who have not seen Shusha for 29 years, ten months, and three days, who counted days before they could visit here and who left here with their five family members and returned here alone," she said.

The diaspora activist added that it was a really impressive scene when the residents of Shusha could not help tears when they arrived here and when they kneeled and kissed the soil of their native land.

"We all are rejoiced to see the unity of people, who have been looking for their houses all day long, find the pieces of stone and remember the past days, kiss and hug their neighbors after years of separation. I want to thank our Supreme Commander-in-chief and our army for bringing this joy to us, and I wish that all Azerbaijanis living abroad could come and see this wonderful land," she said.
