“Day of Silence” starts in Azerbaijan before elections

The pre-election campaign of candidates running for the presidency in Azerbaijan has ended, Report informs.

According to the Electoral Code, pre-election campaigning of registered candidates, their authorized representatives, political parties from which candidates are registered, blocs of political parties, their authorized representatives must begin 23 days before voting day and end 24 hours before the start of voting.

The election campaigning of candidates for the early presidential elections started on January 15, 2024 and should end on February 6 at 8:00 (GMT+4).

This day is unofficially called the “Day of Silence.”

On February 7, polling stations will open at 8 a.m. and voting will last until 7 p.m.

The Central Election Commission registered seven candidates - Ilham Aliyev from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, independent candidate Zahid Oruj, Razi Nurullayev from the National Front Party, Fazil Mustafa from the Great Creation Party, Elshad Musayev from the Great Azerbaijan Party, Gudrat Hasanguliyev from the Integral Azerbaijan Popular Front Party and independent candidate Fuad Aliyev.
