CIS IPA: Azerbaijan’s electoral legislation fully complies with int’l standards

The electoral legislation of Azerbaijan fully complies with international standards, coordinator of the observer mission from the Interparliamentary Assembly (IPA) of the CIS, Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Zhakip Asanov said at a press conference in Baku, Report informs.

Asanov noted that the CIS IPA mission has been monitoring the electoral process in Azerbaijan since December 16 last year: “During this month and a half, we also studied the electoral legislation of Azerbaijan to assess compliance with international standards, conventions, etc. According to the conclusion of our experts, the national laws of Azerbaijan on elections fully comply with international standards.”

The head of the mission also noted with satisfaction the active participation and enthusiasm of citizens in the elections on February 7.

“Baku residents hung flags on the roofs of their houses. We saw how people gathered in crowds and went to vote. Voters said that these elections were historic. At one of the polling stations we met a 91-year-old voter. He said that he came to vote for the future of his country. Everyone, both elderly and young citizens, took part in the voting. They were full of optimism and patriotism, faith in a bright future,” he said.

Asanov congratulated Azerbaijan on behalf of the CIS IPA delegation on the successful holding of elections.
