CEC: Azerbaijan registers 16,174 candidates for municipal elections

As many as 16,174 candidates have been registered for municipal elections in Azerbaijan, Mazahir Panahov, Chairman of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC), said at today's meeting of the CEC, Report informs.

Panahov mentioned that the candidates represent 23 political parties: "8,429 of them are representatives of political parties".

He added that 25,685 local observers have been accredited for the municipal elections.

The chairman also noted that the campaign process has begun today: "Now we have focused our main attention on the campaign process. We must strive to ensure that the processes continue within the legal framework."
