On December 14, the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) will unveil its comprehensive Annual Report, which reflects the current challenges, socio-economic issues, and legal problems faced by territories suffering from colonialism.
According to Report, recognizing the global nature and relevance of the topic, BIG has prepared this extensive report.
The purpose of the report is to raise awareness about the subject, initiate discussions, and encourage the international community to work together towards solving these problems. By doing so, BIG aims to contribute to reducing the impacts of colonialism and ensuring global justice.
Updated reports reflecting the worldwide situation on this issue will be presented annually on Decolonization Day. The reports cover a range of topics, including import and export balances, resource utilization, and the impact of economic policies on the development of territories affected by colonialism. The unequal distribution of resources is identified as a crucial factor hindering sustainable development in these areas.
The reports also focus on the living conditions of local populations, unemployment levels, and deficiencies in access to education and healthcare services. Furthermore, issues of discrimination, legal problems, limited participation of indigenous peoples in governance, and the restriction of their rights are thoroughly investigated.
On December 14, 1960, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples to ensure the right of self-determination for peoples under colonial rule.
This resolution, known as 1514 (XV), is a crucial international legal document for the abolition of colonialism. Although the document emphasizes that the colonial system restricts the rights of peoples and poses a serious threat to international peace, unfortunately, colonialism and its severe consequences still persist.
