Artur Gerasimov: OSCE/ODIHR mission aims to assess elections’ compliance with standards

The OSCE sends observation missions to elections around the world, special coordinator and head of the short-term mission from the OSCE/ODIHR Artur Gerasimov told journalists, Report informs.

He noted that the elections in Azerbaijan are monitored by a short-term mission from the OSCE PA, long-term and short-term missions from the ODIHR: "The total number of observers exceeds 300. They monitor elections in Baku, Sumgait, Nakhchivan and in various regions of the country."

He added that the main goal is to assess the compliance of the voting process with certain standards.

"There are clear principles, standards, procedures, rules. They are reflected in the Copenhagen Document, adopted in 1990. All OSCE observers have undergone serious training," Gerasimov added.
